The
State Fire Marshal's Office Mission "is
the protection of life and property from fire and explosion through the efforts
of a diverse, highly trained and dedicated staff in partnership with other
public safety agencies and the community. This is accomplished through
aggressive criminal investigation of fire and explosive incidents, quality
fire protection engineering services, enforcement of the State Fire
Prevention Code, data collection and analysis, and public fire safety
education."
The OSFM achieves this mission by actively working in 17 of Maryland's
23 Counties and supporting our partners in local jurisdictions when
requested. These responsibilities are currently handled with a staff of
approximately 50 field personnel, plus administrative staff. A six person
Engineering staff is responsible for Plan Reviews and assists with Fire Code
